Find the geocache

“Geocaches come in all shapes and sizes and are well-hidden, so they may be difficult to find.

I'm here to train your geosenses to lead you to a cache so you're ready for anything out in the field."

Select the spot on the image where you think the geocache is hidden!

Pick your first cache to find

“Scroll through these tips and learn how to pick a great first cache to find.”

Pick a cache nearby

There are many different types of geocaches. Start with a Traditional Cache, which has a green icon.

Difficulty and Terrain

Pick a cache that is marked as fairly easy to find (difficulty 1 or 1.5) and with low physical effort needed (terrain 1 or 1.5) in the beginning!

Cache sizes

A geocache can be tiny or huge. A good rule of thumb is that larger caches are typically easier to find. Pick a cache size small or bigger to make your first geocache outing a success.

Read the hint

Most cache owners add a hint to make finding the cache a little easier.

Check the activity tab

Geocachers post here after they found the cache and also if they did not find (DNF) the cache.

If the cache was recently found, chances are it’s still there and ready to be found again.

“Make your first outing a success and pick a cache that is:

Easy (difficulty 1 or 1.5)

Accessible (terrain 1 or 1.5)

Size small to large

Has been recently found”

You learned all the geocaching basics. Test what you learned by taking the quiz.

“Congratulations! You completed module 1 of Signal’s School of Geocaching. Grab a pen, pick a cache, and explore familiar places in a whole new way!”
